Pursue Your Invention Idea Before Someone Else Does

As the market continues to be more innovative, there will be a demand for new or improved products from corporations or individuals with new product ideas. Davison can’t guarantee that while they’re preparing an idea for licensing presentations to corporations that someone else isn’t already working on pursuing the same idea.

It can be very disappointing and unsettling to discover your invention idea on store shelves because someone else pursued the idea before you did.  In most cases, people believe their ideas will always remain their own. The truth of the matter is that your idea may not be as unique as you think it is, and the first person to pursue an idea is generally credited with the invention.

Throughout history, there were many commercialized inventions that went on the market by someone other than the person who invented the product. For example, the first moving picture was recorded at 12 frames per second by French inventor Louis Le Prince. It was filmed at the home of Joseph and Sarah Whitley, in Roundhay, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England on October 14, 1888. The people in the video are Adolphe Le Prince, Sarah Whitley and Harriet Hatley. They all died mysteriously before Loius Le Prince could exhibit his motion picture in America. Thomas Edison was later credited with being the inventor of the motion picture and patented the method and apparatus that Louis Le Prince created.

Another example is intermittent windshield wipers.  Robert Kearns first introduced intermittent windshield wipers in the 1960’s and presented his design to Ford, which was one of the leading car companies of that time. Ford reviewed his idea, but rejected it. It is reported that Ford took the idea and made improvements to it.  A few years later, Ford introduced a car with similar wipers. Kearns filed a case, but ended up losing to Ford even though he spent $10 million in legal fees.

Invention ideas that are submitted to Davison are kept confidential, but it is possible that there is someone out there who has the same idea. Sometimes time can make a big difference.  If you're interested in taking the first steps to get your invention idea off the ground, you complete the free information form and Davison will send you information on how to develop your idea.

Davison’s research, development and presentation services are provided for an upfront fee paid by the client and a contingent fee (which is a percentage of royalties obtained by the client, if any).  New product development is an uncertain endeavor and the use of Davison’s services typically does not result in a license agreement, sales on any market or profit to the inventor.  Davison does not perform analysis of the feasibility, marketability, patentability or profitability of ideas submitted to it.

What Guarantees Can Davison Make For Inventors?

Davison is a product development company with designs that have sold in over 1,000 retail and online stores. CEO George Davison has created a 110,000 square foot office in Pittsburgh, about half of which is called Inventionland, a creative atmosphere for the design and development team. Davison cannot guarantee that someone else will not think of the same idea while they are working and developing an invention idea, but they can guarantee that inventors will work with professional quality service. Davison has more than twenty years of experience designing, engineering, building and testing new inventions. However, they do warn their clients that few inventions will be licensed, sold in stores, or result in financial gain.

Davison can also guarantee a confidential exchange of ideas and information, so inventors don’t have to worry that their ideas will be taken. Trusting someone else with your idea is one of the hardest things inventors will go through in the development process.

Another thing that Davison will guarantee is a design team that will work with inventors in every aspect of product development, including product research, design, engineering, prototype constructions and packaging. Davison also has affiliation with many corporations looking to consider new ideas for potential licensing deals. In order to get these license deals, Davison prepares materials and product samples for presentations, negotiates licensing agreements and manages royalties, if a product reaches a point where it is generating sales.

New product development is an uncertain endeavor and the typical invention is not licensed, sold on any market, or profitable. In fact, no company can guarantee success. To this day, even big companies like Apple Inc. and Microsoft can’t guarantee their new products and software will do well.

How to Invent a Fitness Product

If you are wondering how to invent a new product, but worry that it will take too much time, be too difficult, or cost too much money there are ways to prevent these situations. At the same time, new product development is something that is uncertain. It is quite a risk, much like everything in business. No company or invention can guarantee success. So when you are thinking about how to invent a new product, there are plenty of factors to consider.

For one, companies continue to be more innovative. Therefore, there are people coming up with new invention ideas every day and they are making prototypes as you think about how to invent your idea. That is why it is important to do research and make sure your invention idea is not already on the market. Even if there is a product like the one you came up with, there is always a demand for new or improved products from corporations or individuals with new product ideas.  These products should either solve a problem or improve something and be able to fit in with a certain company’s product line.

For example, if you are thinking about inventing a new fitness product, one of the newest products to recently come out is the Tech-Desk. Instead of spending hours sitting at a desk job and then coming home and spending more time on your laptop sitting down, try out the tech-desk. These desks offer you the ability to stand up while providing a stable working environment for your laptop. Some of these models even offer the capability of fitting over a treadmill. Many models are spacious and have plenty of desktop space to not just have a laptop on it, but also to have working space. The tech-desk promotes better body ergonomics and encourages positive fitness and circulation.

Jumping Stilts are for the extreme sports lovers. They are much like sheetrock stilts, however, they bounce. Jumping stilts are a relatively new invention. Exercise enthusiasts use them to perform tricks as well as workout. They can be used to bounce, flip, jog and do other fun activities. These are great for lower body workout and will have your legs and buns in fantastic shape in no time.

While kettle bells have been around for generations in various counties, it was only recently that these hit the market widespread. The new inventions of these bells are more user friendly with grips and plastic coating. Kettle bells are the new version for weight training. These are great for people looking for a weight lifting workout, but do not want the amount of space taken up by a weight bench, bars and weights. Kettle bells fit neatly in closets and under some beds.

Imagine taking an elliptical and merging it with a bicycle. The Street Strider is also known as a Stepper Bike. The Stepper Bike uses the motion of a stepper or elliptical to peddle the bike. Not only do you step with it, but the arms push the handles like an elliptical. There is no seat on it. You steer by leaning, which strengthens your core muscles. You can imagine the total body workout you can get with this bike. In fact, you can burn up to 1000 calories per hour. There is a vast difference in calorie-burning ability compared to a regular bicycle. If that isn't enough reason to try one out, think of the gas you will save from being able to ride to work instead of drive.

The Moore Trainer Resistance Bands is for athletes and non-athletes with its sport performance technology. The Moore Trainer resistance bands are designed to pump up the volume of workouts without any unwanted pressure on someone’s back, knee and ankle joints. These bands wrap around the legs.

Everyone knows what a stability ball is in aerobics class. Recently, there have been additional uses to the ball. Now there are office chairs with built in stability balls instead of a traditional seat. The idea is to promote muscle strength, circulation, ergonomically sound positioning while preventing muscle fatigue and hemorrhoids. These new chairs bring fitness to the office. With this, you can work and work out while being paid for doing both at the same time.

When figuring out how to invent your product, you may face some obstacles along the way. This can cause you to lose time, energy and money in trying to get off the ground with a product, especially if you do not know how to invent on your own.  If you face any obstacles or are having a hard time inventing a product alone, keep in mind that there are inventing companies that can help.  One of the biggest obstacles most inventors must overcome when pursuing an idea is being willing to trust someone with their idea.  Make sure to do your research and choose an inventing company that has experience with developing products and getting them on store shelves.  Also make sure that the company will sign a Confidentiality Agreement to ensure that your idea is safe.

How to Invent a Grilling Product

Julian Dared to Invent: Inventor of the Best Stink Bug Trap Ever

Julian Smith was an everyday Pittsburgh native who had a problem with uninvited friends.  He wanted to invent something that would get rid of these friends forever, so he brought an idea to Davison and they helped him develop it.

These friends of Julian’s were not your everyday friends - they were stink bugs.  They are scientifically known as pentatomoidea and have glands that let off a foul smell, kind of like a skunk.  According to Julian, he used every bug repellent and trap on the market.  It didn’t work and the bugs almost took over his entire house.  He then created a model stink bug trap out of an empty soda bottle.  Attached to the bottle was a taped LED light.  The whole thing cost him seven dollars.

Julian took his idea and model to Davison and the Davison Creationeers began developing it.  The objective was to develop a simple design that didn’t empty pockets.  According to the CEO of Davison, George Davision, “It works just like his other one.”  The Davison-developed trap also utilizes an LED light to bring stink bugs in and its interior funnel design disables them from making an escape.  Smith had a video on YouTube called the Best Stink Bug Trap Ever and George Davison was very fond of that name.  So they kept it the same and that is how it has been packaged for licensing presentation.

“In life, everything is a chance. This was the first Thanksgiving dinner that I didn't get ridiculed or laughed at because of ideas that I came up with in the past that failed. Don't let people hold you back, you know. Follow your heart,” said Smith.

A typical project is not licensed, sold in stores or profitable.  Davison offers fee-based services.
